How Does Our Sports Assessment Differ From Other Sports Assessments?

  • It begins with the two individuals who administer and evaluate: Dr. April Spurling and Dr. Howard Wiedre. Their education and professional experiences are what makes the evaluation unique and informative. In many instances, they have provided solutions for their clients that many other specialists could not provide. Their experience has taught them how to interpret data based on the individual in front of them.

  • Generally, Dr. Spurling and Dr. Wiedre use assessment tools that are not integrated into the typical brain to eye assessment. Dr. Wiedre has used the Visagraph effectively with hundreds of clients for fifteen years. They look at perception and not just eye health.

  • Dr. Spurling provides specially designed prisms that serve as part of the rehabilitation process.

  • Dr. Spurling and Dr. Wiedre may prescribe visual perceptual exercises that improve observed and documented neuro-optic challenges.

  • Dr. Spurling uses the VEP to evaluate visual spatial processing changes as a result of collisions, falls and other sports injuries.

  • Dr. Spurling and Dr. Wiedre follow the client through the rehabilitation process of corrective lenses and exercises from the assessment to a successful completion. They understand that there isn’t a model to follow or magical panacea. It is a system of observing the individual and continuing to make incremental therapeutic adjustments. The client's challenges drive the process of rehabilitation.
