The Visagraph® Eye-Movement Recording System provides an objective measure of the efficiency of a student's Fundamental Reading Process
(FRP), which reflects his/her visual skills and the manner in which visual impressions are fed to the mind. This system uses infrared sensors and
goggles to track eye-movements as a student reads a passage. This evaluation is, in effect, a "time and motion" study of the process people use
as they read and provides appraisals of one's reading efficiency in relation to norms established on 12,000 students. This system can be used initially
to determine the need for a program of reading fluency development, and again as a post-training evaluation to document the nature of changes in
rate and efficiency.
The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) supports the objective evaluation of the eye movements involved in reading by
instrumentation such as the Taylor Visagraph®.
